Waterloo Regional Chess Challenge

This annual scholastic based tournament has become quite a tradition for the schools of Waterloo Region. Top finishers from each grade qualify to compete at the Ontario Chess Challenge with the hopes of winning the spot for their grade to represent Ontario at the Canadian Chess Challenge competing against all the other provinces of Canada.

The top place finishers in each grade win trophies or medals for their position as well as contribute to their school score. The top schools also win school trophies for Grades 1-6 or 7-8 or High School.

Ontario Youth Chess Championships

This is the annual Youth Chess Championship for the Ontario Chess Association and determines Ontario's Champions for age groups: Under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 in both boys and girls sections. Top finishers from these Championships will proceed (with bursaries won at this tournament) on to the Canadian Youth Chess Championships to try to win a spot on the Canadian Youth team to represent Canada at the World Youth Chess Championships.

This is an offshoot from the KW Chess Club and meets at Kitchener City Hall every Sunday afternoon with once a month a tournament open to all school aged chess players.

Breslau Recreation Association

The Breslau Recreation Association is just about to open their newest addition in the form of a new Gymnasium or Great Hall. Just having completed construction, this building has been built onto the Sales Centre for the Riverland Development which will itself become Breslau Recreation Association property once the development has completed. The Grand Opening for this Gymnasium is slated for March 27, 2010. All are welcome to come together and celebrate.
