The official site of the 2004 Ontario Youth Chess Championship!

This year the Ontario Youth Chess Championship will be held in the beautiful Kitchener City Hall in downtown Kitchener Ontario.

Here are some details for the event:

Date Saturday, May 8th and Sunday May 9th
Place Kitchener City Hall, Kitchener, Ontario
(parking available underground - or close-by in municipal lots)
Rounds 5
Type Regular Swiss
Times Saturday 9:00, 1:00, 5:00, Sunday 10:00, 2:00 (Poss. playoffs after rnd. 5)
Time Control 90 min. + 30 sec. w/Digital Clock or 100 min. SD w/analogue clock.
Entry Fee $52 - $10 late fee after April 25th - Now extended to May 2nd!
Sections Based on age and gender: U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 - Boys and Girls. More here
Prizes First place in each section represented: $150 entry to the CYCC Guaranteed + $BEN (Amount based on Entry Numbers)

Second place in sections with 4 or more players: $BEN towards entry to CYCC

Third place in sections with 6 or more players: $BEN towards entry to the CYCC

Winners: Please see a special note regarding prize fund awards. (Players not able to go to the CYCC will have their prize 'cascaded' down to the next player in the standing.)

OCA is contributing $600 to the prize fund! (we hope to qualify several youth from each section)

Accommodations The organizing committee has arranged for a special rate at the Walper Terrace Hotel, and has set aside a limited number of rooms for our youth chess players and their families. Click HERE for more info.

Special Event!

A challenge blindfold exhibition game between

Kitchener's own FM Hans Jung and WYCC 2003 coach IM Yan Teplitsky!

This event will take place after round 3 on Saturday evening!

Special Thanks goes to the Ontario Chess Association as they are contributing to the prize fund to ensure that some of Ontario's top youth chess players are able to attend this years Canadian Youth Chess Championships (CYCC) in Kapuskasing Ontario in July!
