A Letter to all my Chess Friends:

(this email went out to everyone that attended the 2007 OYCC)

Hi Everyone,

First, I wanted to thank everyone again for coming out to this years Ontario Youth Chess Championships! I hope that everyone is enjoying the rest of this holiday weekend with their families.

While we did not set any records for attendance numbers, we may have set a record for strength of players! (I will have to analyze that to know for sure.) That is definitely my impression anyway. We had some VERY strong players and many many GREAT games!

I know that I was impressed.

I also wanted to let everyone know that I was also VERY pleased with everyone’s behaviour, both in and out of the tournament rooms!

Congratulations go to ALL the players! You were ALL AWESOME!

I would like to invite everyone to visit the OYCC website to see the final results and I have also posted several pictures from the event. (I may be able to post more soon too, so keep coming back. – BTW: if anyone has some digital pictures, I would be very appreciative if I could post some on the site.)

I would also like to take this opportunity to open a dialogue with everyone in order to improve this already successful event.

I would like all the families thoughts as to how I can improve the event.

One such topic would be timing. I had several concerns over the scheduling of the event to be on Easter Weekend.

Is this a good weekend for people?

Would it be better on a regular weekend?

Should it be earlier in the year (February – weather concerns?, March – March break concerns?)

Should it be later in the year (Later in April – conflict with the Ontario Chess Challenge, May – National Chess Challenge, Ontario Open, June – too close before the CYCC in early July?)

Was the facility suitable?

Should we be looking at moving to another city/town? (I know I do very much enjoy running this event here.)

Any other thoughts on any other aspects?

Please email me back with your thoughts / suggestions. I may also open a blog style page on the site to continue this conversation.

So, Congratulations everyone, you are who make this event the success it is!

Thank You,
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
